Free Online CSV viewer

Open and read large CSV files in your browser.

New to CSV files?

There is nothing to set up and nothing you can break. Drop your file into the box above and it shows up as a normal table you can scroll through, rows and columns, in a second or two. If you have been staring at a file that will not open, or a screen full of jumbled text, this is the simple way to just see what is inside.

You really cannot get this wrong. The file stays on your computer exactly as it is, and the tool only reads it and shows it to you, so there is no way to change or lose anything. You do not need an account, and it does not cost a thing.

What is a CSV file?

A CSV (comma-separated values) file is a plain-text table. Every line is a row, and commas mark the boundaries between columns. Because it is just text, a CSV has no viewer of its own. Double-click one and your computer either opens it in a spreadsheet or shows you a wall of raw text in an editor, neither of which is much help when the file is large.

Why use a quick CSV viewer?

Often you do not want to analyse a file, you just want to look at it: check the column names, see how the values are formatted, or confirm an export actually worked before you load it somewhere else. Opening a big CSV in Excel for that is slow and risky, since large files can take minutes to load or crash the program, and a plain text editor shows the data unaligned and unreadable.

A dedicated viewer renders the rows in a clean, aligned table straight away, so you can see what you have in seconds instead of waiting on a spreadsheet that may not even open the file.

How it works

Drag a .csv file in, or click to choose one, and the first page of rows appears right away while the rest of the file is indexed in the background. The data is streamed and shown a thousand rows at a time, so memory stays low no matter how large the file is. A sticky header keeps the column names in view and the row numbers stay aligned as you page through. Files up to 5 GB are supported.

Questions

Is my CSV uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and shown entirely inside your browser. Its contents never leave your computer, and the file itself is never sent to us.

Why not just open it in Excel?

For a quick look, Excel is slow and risky on large files. It can take minutes to load a big CSV, it caps out at 1,048,576 rows, and very large files can crash it. This viewer streams and paginates the file instead, so it opens right away no matter how many rows it has.

How large a file can it open?

Up to 5 GB. The file is streamed and paginated 1,000 rows at a time, so memory stays low even for very large files.

Which formats are supported?

Comma-separated .csv files, including quoted fields that contain commas and newlines.

Is the CSV viewer free?

Yes, completely free. No sign-up, no watermark, and nothing to install. It runs in your browser.

Other free CSV tools: the CSV splitter breaks oversized files into smaller parts, and the CSV to Excel converter turns them into spreadsheets.
